> What the GNO npm package needs to run, and how to check that an installed copy works.

GNO ships as the npm package `@gmickel/gno`, installed with Bun.

## Runtime requirements

- Bun 1.4.1 or newer. The package runs from source, so it needs a real Bun executable. A standalone compiled binary without Bun stops with an explicit error.
- Office and PDF conversion uses the MarkItDown and Officeparser copies bundled under `vendor`. When an upgrade changes a converter, GNO reconverts cached documents on its own; there is no setting to change.

## Check your install

```
gno --version
gno doctor --json
```

`gno doctor --json` includes an `embedding-fingerprint` check with an `embeddingFingerprint` object: `currentFingerprint`, `pendingChunks`, `legacyChunks`, `mixedGroups`, and `groups`. A warning there means keyword search works but semantic results may need `gno embed`. If a check fails, see [Installation](https://gno.sh/docs/installation) and [Troubleshooting](https://gno.sh/docs/troubleshooting).
